Berlin has 220 cemeteries covering a total area of about 1,089 hectares. Unlike Hamburg, there are many small cemeteries here, some of which are located right next to one another. Some are situated directly within residential areas, while larger family plots and mausoleums are often found along the outer walls. Here, too, every cemetery is different from the next—some are beautifully maintained, while others are very “natural.”Many are very old, and you can find the graves of many famous people there.
