The Hyde Park Pet Cemetery is a defunct pet cemetery in London’s Hyde Park. It was established around 1880 in the garden of Victoria Lodge, the residence of a park ranger.
It became famous following the burial of a dog belonging to Sarah Fairbrother, the wife of Prince George, Duke of Cambridge. By the time it was largely closed in 1903, approximately 1,000 burials had taken place there. However, a few burials continued to take place there until 1976. Most of the graves belong to dogs, though cats, monkeys, and birds were also buried there. Today, the site is owned by The Royal Parks and is open to the public only as part of occasional guided tours. Visitors can catch a glimpse of the grounds through the hedges or the entrance gate.
