The 241,626 m² cemetery began to be used in 1916, after the Jewish section at Gate I had become too small. Approximately 60,000 burials have taken place there since then; in addition, reburials were carried out from the Döbling Cemetery in the 1980s, as well as those of so-called “non-Aryan” Christians between 1938 and 1945.
