The parish of Nußdorf dates back at least to the 14th century; it was dissolved during the Reformation and later administered by the Jesuits from Traunkirchen as a preaching church. For over 200 years, Nußdorf was not a Catholic parish. Under Joseph II, Nußdorf was reestablished as a parish in 1783. Despite the Counter-Reformation, the number of Protestants was very high due to the area’s remote location, and remains so to this day.
